A 16 year old female athlete presents with chronic hip pains from a fall a year ago. She used to participate in team sports but quit due to these pains. She’s seen chiropractors and physical therapists with no success.
An exam reveals difficulty doing a wall windowpane squat. This suggests she has gluteal amnesia, or rather her body doesn’t know how to engage her Glutes. Muscle tests show that neither of her Glutes are able to hold a full contraction. Also weak Adductors, groin muscles and lateral stabilizers. Her ITB is also over-contracted.
Her pubic symphysis is sheared, probably from the fall.
First visit: adjusted the pelvis and released the ITB with #ART.
As alignment is corrected and muscles balance out, we can get her to engage her Glutes more effectively, and work with her on wall Squats to become more aware of how to engage her Glutes more effectively.
