I just ran my first Half-Marathon! I’ve been training for the Berkeley Half-marathon (November 20th, 2016) for the past few months. I’ve run several 10 or 12 mile runs with my running group. This is no small feat given that I only started running two summers ago and ran my first 5K last November at the 2015 Berkeley Half. The only way for me to have the discipline to increase my mileage was to join a running group. I’ve been running with RUN365 on weekends to accomplish this. In addition to the long runs, I run shorter distances twice during the week – once on my own and once with a friend.
Medical Screenings
This weekend I attended a training at the Parnassus campus at UCSF through the Dept of Physical Therapy & Rehab Science entitled “Medical Screening for the Physical Therapist: The Sherlock Holmes Approach” taught by Dr William G. Boissonnault. “Why a PT course (again!)?” you might ask. Well, frankly, it’s because I’ve been really impressed with the quality of the continuing education curriculum at UCSF for their therapists, and I want to utilize my limited finances, time and brain capacity wisely! Decompression, Prolotherapy & Vortex Healing
So much has happened over the past couple weeks concerning my shoulder journey. I had a session with an advanced Vortex Healing energy therapist, Nathan Whiteside, who worked on the subtle energies (divine webbing, energy bodies, etc) of my shoulder. I am familiar with this work, because I actually trained it (not to as accomplished a level as Nathan!) perhaps 10 years back. On a completely different wave length, I was in a professional training this past weekend at UCSF in the Orthopedics & Physical Therapy center, where we learned how to use Myofascial Decompression. Think Chinese Medicine Cupping along areas of fascial restriction. Lots of bruising and painful practicing involved. The results were pretty good though, and my shoulder got some deep work by Dr DaPraddo, the instructor. [Read more…]
